The title of the work refers to Prosper Merimee’s character. The warm colors transcribe the Mediterranean origins of the character, the reduction of the volume of her body, her young age, and her small size.
The artist concentrated on the expression of the eyes, working the rest of the face with a quick and spirited paint brush.
